read moreFor Christmas Becky sent me a Halloween table runner. It arrived in early February I think, but accidentally went to our old Milwaukee address. The people there took it in their house and their dog got to the package. They thought it was not damaged, but one green square was ripped apart. I did not want to mention it ... read more
I have been bitten by the machine embroidery bug, and February is National Embroidery Month. It is a good time to explore more ideas and projects to use this machine capability. Now that I have a good combination of stabilizers, the designs are coming out well. I still have the problem of some thread breakage, and seems to be worse on darker colors. Amazingly, my older Sulky rayon threads do not have as much of a problem with this as the newer Floriani threads. Quality products are hard to find these days. Anyway, on a recent newsletter from one of ...

It seems to take me a long time to get a finish. Procrastination. Lazy. Too much else on my plate. Whatever the excuse, I finished three since the last post.
These two are for refugees, the same family as three recently posted. They are a mom/dad and their adult children -- two young men and two young women. Beautiful people. They show their quilts off to every visitor! These two are similar. Both guys sent a picture of what they liked, and one of the pictures had a beautiful woman in it.
That helped me work faster because this guy ...
read moreI pulled out this table runner UFO before finishing the last UFO quilt project, Cabin In The Woods. The current new quilt plan was already in motion but one more small UFO for the year might be possible if I manage my time wisely.
It would quilt up quickly since it's so small. This table runner was probably made in 2014 or 15.
The fabrics used were scraps from these three projects. The first one is Vintage Christmas quilt pattern by Erica Arndt.
Making a runner
Nine months out of the year I am an intervention RTI teacher but in the summer months I am a full time quilter. I sew as much as I can in between being a wife and a mother/grandmother. I haven't shown my summertime finishes in a while and I wanted to share some of the things I have made. Not everyone would like for me to share their t-shirt/memory quilts so I will just tell you how many I made since June 1st.
I've made 12 T-shirt quilts! (If you'd like more info on getting ...

Forgot to make a list last week! Never mind...I do know what I had in mind of finishing.
I have a free pattern for you today–The Liberty Table Runner. Look for the pattern in the Free Resource Library. This project took a very different turn from what I imagined. During my recent retreat, I pieced a little variable star top and thought I might want to adapt it to make a table runner. That came together with another idea and became this patriotic table runner. The twist comes because there are no variable star blocks. That makes it a super easy and fast runner to construct.
I am at my mom’s house, so have a very ...
read moreWell, I had an interesting two weeks. I have been working steadily away on my 'formal' table runner. It took ages to do the grid on there and I decided to take out the markings closer to the end as I found the blue lines were starting to be very distracting in terms of deciding whether to fill more or leave it.
It took several more sessions with the longarm, but I finally got the topper done. When we left off last week, I was just getting started quilting the half-circles in the squares. I marked a line on the ruler with tape to line up on the seam to get them uniform in size.
Overall, I think it looks OK, for my first attempt at small curves like this.
I got into a rhythm as it went along, and it became a bit less tedious. Eventually, I got to the last of the squares.
Next was the decision on the borders ...
read moreMy Friday finish is a wool runner from 2013. I decided not to quilt it. I finished the floss work and attached the backing. I gave it a good press with a wet towel, and, it is lovely, even if, the grass is not. The wool in the kit was hand dyed in beautiful vibrant colors.

The next Ufo on my 5 quilt list to do, is a table runner. I bought the kit at a quilt show in Ohio a hundred years ago.
I bought the kit from wooly lady in 2013. Most of the applique was done when I opened the box. There is still a little floss work to be done. The colors are gorgeous, the pattern was really nice. I spent a small fortune on the kit, I don't know why I didn't finish it.
Are you ready for the holiday? I am done with all I intend to do. The decorating is done, cookies baked, cards mailed, gifts bought and wrapped. The veranda got a wreath, but I never got to the arrangements I thought I’d do. No one comes up here so I just wasn’t motivated. I have our holiday meal planned, and most everything is in the pantry, just a quick stop later in the week for the perishables. In the sewing room, I am finishing the Christmas panel quilt this week. Just in case you still have a few ...
