While I was at the Great New Zealand Quilt Show in Christchurch I picked up a pattern for a quilt as you go table runner.

You saw that title and thought that I might be engaging in a physical challenge at an exotic location, didn't you? Ha! Nope. But I am challenging myself, to use up all of the 1.5" scraps out of the precut bin. After finishing "No Scrap Too Small" last month I decided to keep on using up those itty-bitty four patches that have been assembled, L-E* style, over the years. Here's the design plan

read moreA couple of weeks ago, I showed you the beginning of this honeybee theme table runner in a Sunday Chat. When we left off, I had put the borders on and was ready to quilt it. Loading it on the longarm, I dug through my pantographs for something that would look like the flight path of a bee.

This one seemed to be good, some swirly parts with a pointy change of direction.

Quilting was done in white Glide thread with Bottom Line in the bobbin.

When I got to the bottom of the table runner, I put a strip ...

Sounds simple? Yes. But wait there is more.
1. We must make at least 12 units.
2. Use as many fabrics (from the 20 in the collection) as possible.
NOW, we have a challenge :-)
Well, here is my response.

And I used leftover blocks from Mirabelle to make the backing, so it is two-sided.

A co-worker has close connections with Uganda. She does charitable work there and is now helping a second generation get basic and advanced education. She returned from a recent trip with fabric: Twenty assorted fat quarters.

Could I make her a Ugandan holiday set for her home?
What a fun challenge! (At least it felt fun after she told me she had been considering this for 10 years and certainly didn’t need it THIS Christmas.)
I have two parts to the stage of finished tops:

Tree Skirt

Table Runner

A throw quilt (supplemented with solids from my stash) is ...

read moreFrom time to time, I have to decrease the amount of quilted and crafted items in the house or I would be covered up in them. So, time for a sample sale, to move some things into other hands. I have some cards left as well that were not appropriate for Safelight but still fun, so those are up for sale, too. This is a great time to pick up a gift for someone, or treat yourself. Particularly for my readers who do not quilt, you can have a handmade, unique item for your decor or to give to a ...

read moreFor Christmas Becky sent me a Halloween table runner. It arrived in early February I think, but accidentally went to our old Milwaukee address. The people there took it in their house and their dog got to the package. They thought it was not damaged, but one green square was ripped apart. I did not want to mention it ... read more
I have been bitten by the machine embroidery bug, and February is National Embroidery Month. It is a good time to explore more ideas and projects to use this machine capability. Now that I have a good combination of stabilizers, the designs are coming out well. I still have the problem of some thread breakage, and seems to be worse on darker colors. Amazingly, my older Sulky rayon threads do not have as much of a problem with this as the newer Floriani threads. Quality products are hard to find these days. Anyway, on a recent newsletter from one of ...
read moreHey Sweet Friends! The last UFO for 2023 was one of the smallest projects in the waiting to be quilted pile. If your interested in it's history click here.
It seems to take me a long time to get a finish. Procrastination. Lazy. Too much else on my plate. Whatever the excuse, I finished three since the last post.
These two are for refugees, the same family as three recently posted. They are a mom/dad and their adult children -- two young men and two young women. Beautiful people. They show their quilts off to every visitor! These two are similar. Both guys sent a picture of what they liked, and one of the pictures had a beautiful woman in it.
That helped me work faster because this guy ...
read moreI pulled out this table runner UFO before finishing the last UFO quilt project, Cabin In The Woods. The current new quilt plan was already in motion but one more small UFO for the year might be possible if I manage my time wisely.
It would quilt up quickly since it's so small. This table runner was probably made in 2014 or 15.
The fabrics used were scraps from these three projects. The first one is Vintage Christmas quilt pattern by Erica Arndt.
Making a runner
Nine months out of the year I am an intervention RTI teacher but in the summer months I am a full time quilter. I sew as much as I can in between being a wife and a mother/grandmother. I haven't shown my summertime finishes in a while and I wanted to share some of the things I have made. Not everyone would like for me to share their t-shirt/memory quilts so I will just tell you how many I made since June 1st.
I've made 12 T-shirt quilts! (If you'd like more info on getting ...
